Dues

Annual Dues are $45, which goes entirely to the council to pay for registration expenses:

$24 national registration January-December 2016 calendar year*

$ 2 accident insurance

$12 for Boys' Life magazine subscription January-December 2016

$ 7 Leader registration & insurance (pro-rated)**

Total: $45

In addition to our registration expenses, we have other fixed expenses:

$13 handbook

$ 4 Pinewood Derby Car

$ 2 Charter Fee***

$10 Adventure loops earned toward rank

$ 2 Rank badges

$ 2 / month registration fee for every month remaining in 2015 (applies only to new scouts).

In addition, we have other expenses that are more difficult to forecast, such as supplies used in running our program, food and entertainment for our annual sleepover, and our annual Blue & Gold Banquet, which is the highlight of our scouting year. Our pack expenses run about $120 per boy, which is paid for with the money our boys earn from selling popcorn, and a couple other fund-raisers we hold during the year.

Though we try to keep expenses to a minimum, boys and families will have some expenses to participate in activities, particularly day camp and overnight camp, as well as uniforms (you may be lucky and find some inexpensive uniforms on EBayor Craig's List). To help defray the costs, we have instituted Scout Accounts (please click here to learn more). Scouts fund their scout accounts with proceeds from the annual popcorn sale and can use this money to pay for any of their scouting-related expenses.

*The Boy Scout registration year runs from January through December. For boys joining after January, the registration fee is $2 for every month remaining in the calendar year; therefore, for boys joining in September, the registration fee is $8 for the remainder of 2015, plus $24 for 2016.

**Leaders are required to be registered and trained; in gratitude for the time that already-busy parents contribute to keeping the pack running smoothly, the pack pays the leaders' registration fees; this is the cost pro-rated among our boys.

***The charter fee is the fee we pay to the Laurel Highlands Council to renew our charter for following year; this is the cost pro-rated among our boys.
