Volunteering In Our Community

We know how hard it may be to find volunteer opportunities in your area, so we thought we would post an ongoing list of places we find that are willing to allow girls in the 6th-12th grades the chance to help in their communities. If you know of more, we'd love to add them to the list!
The basics:
1.  If you meet at a church, check with someone in charge to see if they need help at an upcoming event. You may be able to help with set up & clean up, serve food, pass out programs or newsletters, etc.
2.  Reach out to other scouting units in your area. You may be able to assist them with events like mentioned above for churches. For example, we volunteer to work the concession area for a Cub Scout Pack when they have their Pinewood Derby. This frees up their parents to enjoy the fun with their scouts, and in turn, they also allow us to take cookie orders while we're there! We also volunteer for the local Cub Scout Day Camp every summer, although this is just an opportunity for some of the older girls.
.

Annual Events:
1.   Mid-South Renaissance Faire - There are a variety of ways to volunteer, including but not limited to: ticket booths, water tents, as cast members
2.   Pass out water or cheer on the runners during a marathon, like at the St. Jude Marathon - Memphis
