Troop 54327 Gold Award Recipients
Angela Roberts held a journalism class for students in grades 3rd-6th at her local library. She introduced students to the structure of articles and the basics of journalistic writing as well as the rich history of reporting. Angela lead her class of 17 students on Monday and Thursday for five weeks, assisting each child in writing an article. At the end of the course, Angela collected the students’ articles in a newsletter, which she distributed to both the parents of the children and the library at which she held her class.
Malaree Scott held a volleyball camp for younger students to address the issue of childhood obesity. Malaree shared her love of volleyball and taught children the value of making good nutrition choices and being active each day. Her camp allowed each child to realize the benefits of daily exercise and healthy eating habits.
Laura Shope created two after school theatre programs for 4th through 8th graders at her local elementary and middle school. She titled the programs STARbuilders: working together toward a brighter future. In each program, Laura lead a team of volunteers from the High School’s Thespian Troupe 185 in teaching children essential skills of theatre. The students learned skills such as improvisation, stage presence, projecting your voice, audition technique, and warm-up exercises. Through the program, Laura observed how each student’s self-confidence grew as they developed into young actors.

Lauren Niziol 2017demonstrated the value of recycle and reuse by teaching others to make reusabletee shirt bags and using them in local charities
