Our Mission
As a parent today, we cannot help but be concerned about the influences and situations that our sons could be involved in without our guidance and direction. Cub Scouting is a program designed to develop positive attitudes and character while it captures a boy's interest in the use of crafts, games, skits, songs, and other activities.
The mission of Pack 16 is to provide a postitive atmosphere where Scouts will grow and develop. In Cub Scouting, a framework is provided with guidelines upon which we build. We build by adding fun and excitement into the learning process. Many of our activities allow boys to experience something they will rarely get the chance to do elsewhere. And all foster learning, but most of all, FUN!
Cub Scout Pack 16 operates under the rules and policies of the Boy Scouts of America.
Blue and Gold
The Cub Scout colors are blue and gold. Blue signifies the sky, truth, spirituality, and loyalty. Gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness. Together they symbolize what Cub Scouting is all about. Blue and Gold is also the name of our celebration of the February birthday of Scouting.
Purpose
Cub Scouting has the following purposes:
- To positively influence a boy’s character development and growth.
- To develop habits and attittudes of good citizenship.
- Strengthen a boy’s ability to get along with others.
- Foster a sense of personal achievement by developing new interests and skills.
- Provide fun and exciting new things to do.
- Show a boy how to be helpful and do his best.
- Prepare him to be a Boy Scout.
Who
Boys in first through fifth grade (ages 5-10) may join our pack. Members of our Pack come from Flowery, Woodland Star, Sassarini, Prestwood, St. Francis, Sonoma Charter, Presentation, El Verano and other private and homeschooled boys from the same neighborhoods.
Dens of 5-6 boys meet one to four times a month and the entire pack meets once a month at Saint Leo's Church.
Volunteers
The entire pack consists of volunteers, from the Cubmaster to the Den Leaders. Without these volunteers, there would be no program for our boys.
We of Pack 16 realize the value that each and every parent posseses to help our pack grow and not only encourage, but expect, everyone to help out in some way to "help the pack go."
Every parent that volunteers in some way helps everything run smoother and prevents the "burnout" that often happens when too few volunteers try to take on the entire burden.
There are many volunteer positions available, from helping at pack meetings to running a committee, from taking photographs to becoming a den leader. You will be asked to sign up and keep your promise of helping the pack run smoothly.
Just remember, many hands make light work and that our boys depend on you!
Fundraising
Pack 16 and our program cannot run without funds. Scouts and their parents are expected to participate in fundraising events of the Pack. The profits of any fundraising will go to the Pack fund and be used to maintain the Pack. This includes, but is not limited to, the purchase of awards, materials, training of leaders, rechartering, general upkeep and supporting of Pack activities.
One of Scouting's main fundraising events is selling Trails-End Popcorn. This is our major fundraiser and all Scouts will have a goal to try to reach. This fundraiser starts now and ends in mid-October.
