Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 143

We are excited about our Cub Scout Pack 143 program. We plan to have a lot of fun this year, while benefiting from the character-building values of Scouting.

Cub Scout Pack 143 is chartered by Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy.

The general goal of the Cub Scouting Program is to encourage citizenship, character development, personal fitness and spiritual growth for boys in grades 1st through 5th. The boys are organized into dens with 8 - 10 boys per den. Once a month during the pack meeting the boys gather into their dens to work on their Adventures. The scouts and their families also participate in special events throughout the year which include:  Pinewood Derby, Camping, Nature Hikes, Sporting Events, Fishing Derbies, Community Service Projects and lots more…

If you are a boy in first grade through fifth grade then Cub Scouting is for you and it's for your family too. This is the first stage, and the biggest, of the three Scouting programs (Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing) from the Boy Scouts of America.

Cub Scouts Do Things and Go Places

Cub Scouting means "doing." You have lots to do as a Cub Scout—crafts, games, sports, songs, stories, and puzzles, to name just a few. Much of the fun happens right in the den and pack. Each den usually meets once - three times a month, and the pack meets once a month all year long. At den meetings and pack meetings, Cub Scouts do activities that they learn from while having fun.

Cub Scouts also go to events like the annual Blue and Gold banquet, field contests, and derbies such as the Pinewood Derby. They also go on field trips, camping trips and many other types of outdoor adventures and community events. Cub Scouts do all sorts of exciting stuff!  Whatever it is that you enjoy, you'll have a chance to do it in Cub Scouting.

Cub Scouts Earn Awards

While you're having fun, you'll also be earning badges and awards. You'll work on projects with your parents or other adults in your family and your Den, all of which will make you will feel good about the things you accomplish. When you have earned a badge or award, you will be recognized in front of the whole pack for your hard work!

Advancements

The Cub Scout program is family-oriented… not all achievements can be done at the den meetings.  Many are designed to be family activities. Parents can sign off on activities that satisfy any requirement in the handbook, even from the summer preceding their rank… we just ask that you “Do Your Best!” There are many opportunities for scouts to earn awards while exploring areas of interest to them. We strive wherever possible to grant immediate recognition… we celebrate and reward a job well done!

Cost

The registration price for the year is $75.00

Uniforms

The uniform is an important aspect of Scouting. Cub Scouts wear the blue shirt (Webelos and AOL scouts may wear Khaki), a belt, and a neckerchief with slide or Woggle for their rank.  Tip: Buy a uniform with “room to grow”, and short sleeves for year-round comfort (you can wear layers underneath).

Volunteers

Everyone involved in our pack is a volunteer.  Therefore we welcome everyone’s input and help. The more involved our families are, the more we can offer our scouts. Please support your den leaders and help them as much as possible, as they are donating their time and effort. There are so many areas where we can use an extra hand… please see any of our pack committee members and leaders if you are able to volunteer in any way, big or small—there’s nothing more rewarding than to make a difference in the life of a child.
