Adventures in Scouting-A year in review

A year in review
 2013-2014, WOW the
year has flown by; with so many things that happened this past spring, summer, fall and winter. We are all looking forward to what spring is going to bring us, along with the adventures in our scout troop. We had some great experiences last year, from raising money at the Pizza Ranch in Monticello to help send our boys to Alaska, to saying goodbye to a dear long time scouting Friend, Mr. Charles "Charlie"Nelson he passed in Dec.2013. He was a long time friend of our troop and friend to all of the boys.
Okay, enough sad stuff...

Highlights of the Year!

February
The Blue and Gold banquet
A way to honor the charter organization that helped fund the Cub Scout pack (where most of the boys transferred from). This is an annual event put on by the Cub Scout Pack 312 at the time led by Brian Gilson. It was a wonderful event with Joe B, current Tenderfoot scout receiving his Arrow of Light. The only award that transfers from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.(for those who did not know that).
Mr. Gilson also finished up his last pies to the face, as this was his last year as Cubmaster. He is missed there, but he is now the Asst. Scout master for Troop 312.

Winter Camporee Base Camp-Fort Snelling, St.Paul, MN

This was so much fun for the boys who attend: Joe, Kyle, Elijah and Noah. They had the opportunity that day to enrich themselves in Archery, Blow darts, high ropes, Jumbo Jenga, Movies and merit badge completion. There were contests to win great prizes.
Troop 312 Representative, Greg Youmans,  was our host for the overnight event. With over 100 scouts there it was not chaotic, but a great experience. The boys had the opportunity to meet other boys from all of the Crow River district.

March
Much going on this month

Merit Badge Madness March 8, Monticello

Wow, what a day from learning how to tie knots to seeing Greg  and JT put on a Great Show(puff the magic dragon, rendition) the boys from Troop 312 enriched themselves in the Scout atmosphere. There were stations for the new scouts (former webelos) to attend and get a jump start on their Scout rank, We had one new scout that year and many others who participated in First Aid, Communications, Geology, Marine life and so much more! The scouts from the troop had a great time.

Fundraising
Some fundraising was done in March, The scouts and their parents helped raise money for Alaska at the Pizza Ranch in Monticello, it was so much fun, with all of the boys wanting to have a "contest" to see who could carry in the most dishes and plates, even their siblings were competing. It was a great time!

Montrose Days Fish Fry
This is an annual event, the boys were asked to come and help out their community and also help raise money for Alaska. The event went for two weeks. They also sold tickets ahead of time to members of the community.

Greatest Summer Ever

Trips/ Adventures
Almost all of the boys in our scout troop visited Alaska, this past summer for a High Adventures Crew trip, from the majestic mountains to seeing Bears in camp, the boys and their leaders/parents had a wonderful time.
They panned for gold, river rafted, hiked in Denali National Park and slept under the Stars. Pictures are in the gallery from their great Adventure....

Some of us, were left behind... For the One scout who was unable to make the trip, he spent his days working the Malt Shop with the Howard Lake boy scout troop and he also helped out at the Wright County VFW Post 1901 bingo booth. He enjoyed every minute of it, even if he was covered in ice cream.
