Raymore Missouri Troop 32 History:

Introduction to Troop 32

Troop 32 started in October of 1970 with 5 boys. It has always been sponsored by the Raymore Lions Club. Mr Duncan was the first Scoutmaster. Other Scoutmasters have been Larry Petty, Charlie Holloway, Woody Woodward, Otis Barnes, Al Seroka, and our current Scoutmaster Dan Barnes. Dan has been Scoutmaster for a total of 29 years and he was one of the first 5 boys.

The Troop's first meeting place was Raymore Presbyterian Church. In 1995, they moved their meetings to St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The first Troop flag was orange and black. In 1990, they adopted new colors of tan and brown. Also in 1990, the Raymore Lions Club donated a scout trailer and the Troop theme of, "Eagle Bound" was adopted.

The Troop has always been active. High Adventure trips have included Philmont New Mexico, Ely Minnesota, Colorado's Packard, Florida Sea Base, Texas' Chisholm Trail, and Virginia's New River Adventure. They have attended camp at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation every year and camped at all three camps. Many boys and adults have become members of the local honor camping society, the Tribe of Mic-O-Say as well as the national honor camping society, Order of the Arrow.

The Troop has always provided a year-round program that includes camping every month. In the beginning, they did a lot of backpacking and pioneering, often hiking to a wooded area just off County Line Road, North of Raymore. Other favorite activities have included canoeing Missouri Rivers and cycling.

Troop 32 has put hundreds of boys through the program, over 122 of them have earned the Eagle Scout Award. The first class of Troop 32 Eagle Scouts was in 1976. It consisted of Dan Barnes, Junior Woodward, Kevin Pheifer, and Jay Petty. The award was presented to a class of 300+ in the Music Hall of Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City Missouri.

The Troops' highest membership count was is 2007 with 74 registered boys and 96 registered adult leaders, many are still helping today.
