SAMPLE QUESTIONS TO ASK TROOPS

SAMPLE QUESTIONS TO ASK TROOPS

         FOR WEBELOS LEADERS AND/OR PARENTS

Often,a Troop will have a printed brochure or calendar which will answer most of yourquestions regarding the Troop; however, we offer the following as suggestions to areas you may have concerns about -- use any, all or none, as you see fit!

FINANCES:  How many fund raisers does the Troop hold each year?

How are the funds used?

What are the expectations of my son for fund raisers?

Does he have to sell "door to door"??

Does the Troop have dues?  When are they paid?  What do the dues cover?

CAMPING:    What is the camping agenda for the year?

Does the Troop own its own equipment?

Who from the family should attend the camp outs?  What's required?

Who from the family MAY attend??

What does my son need as far as equipment?  What is the cost?

Does the Troop attend summer camp?  Where?

PROGRAM:  Who runs the Troop meetings?

Do you participate in District,Council, National or International events?

What is the emphasis of your program:  camping, hiking, canoeing, etc.?

What involvement does the troop have in environmental/community service?

How often do you meet?

Does the troop utilize "Journey to Excellence"?

Do you have a program for first-year Scouts?

Is there a Venture/Varsity/older boy program?

 ADVANCEMENT:

How and when does advancement occur?

What is the expectation on meeting/camping attendance?

 ADULT INVOLVEMENT:

How can I participate in the Troop?

Do you want or need additional leaders?

Do I have to participate?  To what extent?

 STRUCTURE:

Does the Troop have an active Committee?

Who do I talk to about joining?

What is the patrol method?  Do you use it?  What is the average patrol size?

How many boys are active in the Troop?

Who is the Chartering Organization?
