Tiger Cub Scout Essentials


There is no reference to "Hiking Essentials" in the Cub Scout Tiger Handbook.  Please reference the "Eight Essentials" in the Cub Scout Wolf Handbook. This list is detailed in requirement b for the "Let's Go Camping" elective, #25. Wolf Cub Scouts are cautioned to "Always take these eight essentials:"
  1. First aid kit*
  2. Filled water bottle
  3. Flashlight
  4. Trail food
  5. Sunscreen
  6. Whistle
  7. Rain gear
  8. Pocket knife*

Wolf Cub Scout Essentials

  8. Rain gear
  9. Pocket knife*
  10. Matches or fire starters.*

Webelos Scout Essentials


The 2003 edition of theWebelos Handbook lists these items as the "Outdoor Essentials". This list is part of the additional information for the Outdoorsman activity Badge.
  1. First aid kit*
  2. Filled water bottle
  3. Flashlight
  4. Trail food
  5. Sunscreen and sun protection
  6. Whistle
  7. Map and Compass
  8. Rain gear
  9. Pocket knife*
  10. Matches or fire starters.*
*First-Aid Kit - Take a small personal first aid kit. Here are some things you should put in it: Band-Aids of different sizes, soap, antibiotic ointment, tweezers, alcohol wipes, gauze bandage, scissors, safety pins.

*Pocket Knife - Boys that have earned their Whittiling Chip need to carry their card with their knife and use it in the manner as agreed upon. For those boys that have not yet earned it or have forgotten it, knives need to be kept safely stored and should only be used for emergency purposes.

*Matches and Other Fire Starters - Please keep these items safely stored unless needed for emergency purposes.
