What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a year-round program uniquely designed to meet the needs of young boys and their parents. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.  Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.  Family involvement is an essential part of Cub Scouting and parents are encouraged to play an active role in the program. Through interaction between parents, leaders, and friends, boys learn citizenship, compassion, and courage. This family-and community-centered approach to learning means that Cub Scouting is truly time well spent.

What other activities are available to Cub Scouts and their families?

Pack 3747 is very active, providing a rich environment for boys and their families. Typical annual events include:

·         Scouting for Food

How much is it going to cost?

Pack 3747 does not charge annual dues.  Costs for almost all pack events, awards earned and pinewood derby kits are paid for by the pack.  Scouts participate in one annual fund-raising activity (Lone Elm Pizza sales in September), which covers the costs associated with the scouting year.  The importance of each scout achieving his goal in the pizza sale cannot be stressed enough, it is the economic foundation of the entire pack.

A brat fry is typically held every Spring or Summer to help cover the costs of the annual Pack camp.

You will need to purchase a scout shirt and 4 patches for it, a scout belt, the neckerchief, slide and handbook appropriate for your son's rank.

For new scouts, we do ask that you pay for your son’s first year registration fee (+/-$12)  Since the pack’s charter begins on March 1, new Cub Scouts may pay a prorated registration fee for the remainder of the year, depending on when they register. Contact the Cubmaster for a prorated dues schedule.

Boys' Life Magazine is also available if you choose to subscribe. The cost for this is $12 annually.

Other costs include some activity fees including those for District events.

Cub Scouts usually meet in their Dens twice each month, and a Pack meeting or other Pack event (Pinewood Derby, for example) is held for all Cub Scouts and their families once a month. Beyond that, it depends on the Den and Pack: a Den may hold a special activity, such as a service project or visit to a local museum in place of one of the weekly meetings or in addition to the weekly meetings.

How can I learn more?

The best way to learn about what a Cub Scout really does is to talk with a Cub Scout who is engaged in the program. Alternatively, you can learn more about the Cub Scout program by selecting "Contact Our Pack" (above) and asking questions, or leave your phone number to receive a call from the Cubmaster.
